He was born on 31 October 1875 in Kheda district of Gujarat. He breathed his last in Mumbai on 15 December 1950.

Born into a farmer family, Patel is also remembered for his diplomatic abilities. The credit for uniting independent India is given to Patel's political and diplomatic ability. 

At the age of 36, Sardar Patel went to England to study advocacy. He did not have the experience of going to college, yet he completed the 36-month advocacy course in just 30 months.

Sardar Patel took a long time to complete his school education. He passed the 10th examination at the age of 22.

Due to financial constraints in the family, he took books instead of going to college and started preparing himself for the District Magistrate's examination. He scored the highest marks in this examination.

He died in India on 15 December 1950 and this iron man said goodbye to the world.
